Care & Maintenance – Linoleum Surfaces
Linoleum is a natural material known for its softness, matte finish, and antistatic properties, making it resistant to dust and easy to maintain. With the right care, it will age beautifully over time.
Daily & Regular Cleaning
Use a soft, damp microfiber cloth to wipe the surface clean. Always wring the cloth well to avoid excess water, and dry off with a clean, dry cloth afterwards.
For daily cleaning, water is often enough. If needed, use bottled (demineralized) water in areas where tap water leaves limescale marks.
Periodic Cleaning
Every two months, clean the surface with a mild soapy solution, such as Forbo Monel , diluted in water at a 1:20 ratio. Apply with a microfiber cloth or a spray bottle, then wipe and dry thoroughly. This helps maintain the surface and refresh its natural appearance.
Occasional Treatment
If the surface appears dull or depleted, apply a small amount of 100% pure, neutral soap (eg Forbo Monel) directly to the surface. Let it sit for an hour before cleaning as above. This will help nourish and restore the linoleum.
Important Notes
- Linoleum has a fairly soft surface and can be scratched by sharp or abrasive objects. Always take care when placing items on the surface.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Do not use excessive water.
- Never sand or attempt to repair scratches — linoleum is soft and minor marks often fade over time.
- The surface is not waterproof, so wipe up spills promptly.
- With gentle, regular care, linoleum will retain its natural beauty and character for years to come.
